چکیده
Abstract Introduction Transversus abdominis plane (TAP) regional anaesthetic blocks are often performed by surgeons and provide effective anaglesia in the immediate postoperative period. It is not known whether volume concentration of local used for TAP influences quality analgesia when total drug dose similar. Aim This pilot aimed to compare low versus high-volume block post-operative pain patients undergoing elective colorectal surgery, using analgesic consumption as a proxy pain. Method Single centre cohort study. Data were collected resections from April – December 2021. Patients cohorted into those receiving low-volume, high-concentration (40–50ml 0.25% levobupivacaine) high-volume, low-concentration (100ml 0.125% levobupivacaine). including PCA (patient-controlled analgesia) type (morphine/ oxycodone) collected. Results 107 identified. regarding usage was available 55 patients. 23 (41.8%) given high blocks. 78.3% (p=0.56) group prescribed postoperatively, compared 84.3% low-volume group. Median morphine 11mg cohort, 18mg (p=0.23). Conclusions High associated with reduced requirement PCA. Although statistically significant our small sample size, results may be interest suggest that use warrants further

Posterior Transversus Abdominis Plane (TAP) Catheters in Lower Abdominal Surgery
Objective: Single shot transversus abdominis plane (TAP) blocks have gained popularity as an analgesic tool after abdominal surgery. We present two cases where catheters were placed in the posterior transversus abdominis plane for providing continuous analgesia after lower abdominal surgery. Patient one was admitted for laparoscopy assisted left hemicolectomy and bilateral posterior catheters u...
متن کاملThe Transversus Abdominis Plane (TAP) block: Abdominal plane regional anaesthesia
HISTORY OF THE TAP BLOCK Abdominal field blocks and costo-iliac block have been used in anaesthesia for surgery involving the anterior abdominal wall for several decades. A technique involving multiple injections of local anaesthetic in the abdominal wall was used in the 1980s.1 This technique was improved with a blind landmark technique, via the ‘lumbar triangle of Petit’.2 The clinical effica...
متن کامل[The analgesic efficacy of transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block].
The transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block is a novel approach for blocking the abdominal wall neural afferents via the bilateral lumbar triangles of Petit. It was described for the first time in 2007 by McDonnell et al. We applied the technique after the original methodology of the authors. We evaluated its analgesic efficacy first 24 postoperative hours of patients, undergoing to surgical an...
متن کاملEfficacy of Ultrasound-guided Transversus Abdominis Plane (tap) Block for Post- Cesarean Section Delivery Analgesia
Background: Ultrasound-guided transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block has been used for intra-operative and postoperative analgesia. Here we evaluate the efficacy of TAP block for postoperative cesarean delivery analgesia. Method: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was performed at King Khalid University Hospital on 40 patients undergoing cesarean delivery under spinal anesthe...
